for your dog you should be checking on them more regularly some more than others this is because each dog is special and have different health benefits, some are small and some are tall some have flat faces some have long noses each dog is different 

first check up you should do on your dog is weight this will show you if your dog is healthy by seeing if they eat the right amount or to much or less there could also be a different reason if for example your dog could have worms which makes your dog feel bloated meaning it dose not want to eat  

the second check up you should do is check there paws there paws are one of the most venerable places for stuff such as yeast infections and objects getting stuck i side them which would cause your animal some pain if it is a sharp object you should also cut there claws if they don't go for walks regally

this would cause stress on the dog because the claws would cross over and if to long curl back into the paw.

the third thing you should check is your dogs ears, eyes and gums these are important to check you should check the gums to see if they are red like they should be if pail there might be a lines disease which is caused by ticks. The eyes  should be clear if they are cloudy your dog could just be old but also not be able to see very well which would cause problems latter on in the dogs life lastly the ears if the ears are red the dog should be given flea treatment and you should deep clean everywhere the dog goes in your house. 

the 4th step in checking to see if your dog is heathy is by checking for lumps some dogs gain lumps in old age for example labs gather lumps as they get older but either way get your dog checked for cancer or any other worries you might have.
